Pace Softball Splits a Pair Against Molloy

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University softball team split a Tuesday evening doubleheader against Molloy College to begin their action for the week. The split, a 1-0 win and a 10-4 loss, moves the Setters' record to 6-12 overall this season.

Inside the Numbers
Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) tossed a gem in the opener, throwing a complete-game shutout en route to a 1-0 Pace victory. The junior gave up just four hits and walked one while striking out seven. Bernet has now tossed complete-game efforts in her last three starts.

Arielle Acosta (Union City, CA/Moreau Catholic High School) and Zoie Iverson (Oregon City, OR/Alliance Charter Academy/ Oregon City High School) both put together multi-hit efforts in the opening pitchers' duel, accounting for all of the Blue and Gold's hits.

Raechelle Seil (Port Orchard, WA/South Kitsap High School) went three-for-four in the backend of the doubleheader with a pair of runs scored, while Briana Ryan (Wilmington, CA/Carson) drove in three of the Setter runs in Game Two. Ryan and Lindsey Ah Soon (Ewa Beach, HI/Kamehameha Kapalama) both recorded a pair of hits in the closer.

Game One Recap: Pace 1, Molloy 0
The Setters struck in the first inning with what would prove to be the only scoring in the first seven innings of the day. Acosta led off the frame with a single before stealing second. Two batters later, Acosta advanced to third on a Ryan groundout and scored on an errant throw by Molloy's Tara Byrnes.

Molloy threatened to draw even in the second, loading the bases with back-to-back two out singles, but Bernet induced the inning-ending flyout to work out of danger.

After the second inning, Bernet was nearly perfect, allowing just one baserunner in her final five innings of work. Adriana Saab would get to the junior starter with a two-out single in the seventh, but she would end the game stuck there as Bernet struck out Marissa Nicoletti to end the game.

Game Two Recap: Molloy 10, Pace 4
The Lions did not wait to get their offense started in Game Two, plating a run in the first inning against Pace starter MacKenzie Garrick (South River, NJ/South River). The Setters were quick to respond in the bottom half, as a Seil triple was followed by Ryan's first home run of the season to put Pace up 2-1.

Molloy plated a pair of their own in the second and one more in the third before the Setters would get on the board again. It was Ryan with the big hit once more, as her double to right center scored Seil to cut Molloy's lead down to 4-3.

The Lions would put another two runs on the board in the fourth. Maxibel Garcia (Passaic, NJ/Paterson Charter School for Science and Technology) would relieve Garrick in the inning, tossing three scoreless innings before allowing four runs (one earned) in the seventh.

Emma Schafer (Mission Viejo, CA/El Toro) hit an RBI single in the seventh to score Ah Soon, but that would be all the Pace offense would score in their final inning of work.

Up Next
The Setters are right back at it tomorrow, heading to New Haven for a conference doubleheader with the Chargers starting at 3 p.m.
