PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Honoring the Class of 2019 as part of Senior Day celebrations, the No. 20 Pace University women's lacrosse team defeated 19th-ranked Bentley, 13-9, on Saturday afternoon. The Setters, now winners of three straight, improve to 7-6 overall with the victory and 5-4 in conference play.
With the team's seven upperclassmen getting the recognition before the game, it was sophomore
Carlyn Mucci (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) that led the offensive effort during the contest. Mucci scored a career-high four goals against the Falcons, bringing her season total to 19.
The Class of 2019 did make their mark in the game, as
Courtney Sulfaro (Shirley, NY/William Floyd),
Amanda Dickerson (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead), and
Juliana Marcolini (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) combined for five points. Sulfaro netted a score and dished out two assists, while Dickerson scored her eighth goal of the season and Marcolini notched a helper. Defensively,
Michelle Antonio (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) had a season-high five caused turnovers.
Sienna Masullo (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai School District) posted her third consecutive game with double-figure saves, making 10 stops in net. The freshman is now 7-5 to begin her collegiate career.
The Falcons struck first a little over two minutes into the game, but Mucci's response goal 30 seconds later kick-started a four-goal run by the Blue and Gold.
Kayla Conway (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) and Dickerson both found the net before Mucci collected her second of the day to put Pace ahead 4-1. Bentley scored the next two goals before Pace ended the half with two tallies of their own, the last coming courtesy of Sulfaro with just two seconds left in the period.
Up 6-3 at the half,
Mary Kate Lonegan (Brewster, NY/Brewster) scored twice in 45 seconds to open up the second.
Aleya Corretjer (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) and
Emma Rafferty (Bay Shore, NY/Islip) would move the Pace lead back to five following a pair of Falcon goals. The Setters would extend the lead up to six after
Johnna Leone's (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) goal with 11 minutes to play, giving the Blue and Gold a wide enough margin to close out the game.
