Pace Baseball Falls in Mid-Week Game at New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Continuing a stretch of eight consecutive road games against the NE10, the Pace University baseball team was defeated at New Haven on Wednesday afternoon, 7-1. The loss shifts the Setters' overall record to 19-10 season, including a mark of 8-6 inside the conference.

The Chargers stuck first in the second inning off a George Pappas sacrifice fly. Alex Busby (Landing, NJ/Roxbury / County College of Morris) would hold New Haven in check through the first three innings before finding trouble in the fourth. A bases-loaded walk and a two-run double by Matt Chamberlain put the Chargers ahead 4-0.

The Setters were held without a hit until the fifth inning, when Alex Pia (Guilford, CT/Xavier) collected a two-out single. Back-to-back follow-up singles off the bats of Michael Salmonese (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) and Noah Clement (Voorhees, NJ/Roman Catholic High School) brought Pia home to cut the New Haven lead to 4-1.

Pace would be held to just one hit over the final four innings, a Clement single in the eighth. The Chargers meanwhile tacked on three more runs in the seventh to pull away.

Up Next
The Setters will continue their current road stretch this weekend with a three-game series at the College of Saint Rose.
