ALBANY, N.Y. – In the final game of their regular season, the Pace University men's basketball team was defeated at the College of Saint Rose on Tuesday night, 80-68. The Setters (15-13, 9-11 NE10) will now enter the postseason as the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Tournament.
Inside the Numbers
*Each member of Pace's starting five reached double figures, led by a 19-point effort from junior
Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, NJ/Southern Regional). Wejnert also led the Setters with seven rebounds, in addition to adding three assists.
*
Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, NY/Long Island Lutheran) chipped in 14 points, to go along with a team-high five assists. Jacobs, who already broke Pace's single-season record in the category, has now totaled 175 assists in 28 games.
*The Setters' attack was rounded out by a combined 34 points from
Tyrone Cohen, Jr. (Woodside, NY/Christ the King / Holy Cross University / Broward College),
Greg Poleon (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln / Coffeyville CC) and
Austin Gilbertson (Etters, PA/Trinity).
*Poleon's stat line also featured five rebounds, four assists and two blocks, while Gilbertson chipped in a pair of steals.
*Pace did most of its offensive damage from beyond the arc, tying a season-best with 10 made three-pointers. The Setters' 10-of-21 effort (47.9 percent) from long range was their most accurate performance of the year.
How it Happened
The last few minutes of the first half proved to be the difference on Tuesday night. Leading 28-26, the Golden Knights rattled off a 15-2 run over the final 3:52 before halftime to take a 15-point edge at the break.
Saint Rose knocked in three-pointers on each of their final three possessions of the first half to seize the 43-28 edge.
The Golden Knights stretched their lead to as high at 21 after halftime before Pace finished the contest on a 16-7 run to make the final deficit, 80-68.
