PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Facing a team that entered the night with a 10-1 record, the Pace University volleyball team rattled off a four-set win (25-20, 27-25, 12-25, 25-22) over East Stroudsburg University on Tuesday night. The victory moves the Setters to 7-2 this season.
Junior
Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) piloted the Pace offense with a season-high 16 kills, to go along with a pair of service aces and seven digs. Sophomore
Mackenzie Byrne (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) was also strong on the night, putting forth a career-best nine putaways.
Senior
Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) and freshman
Sandra Yang (Bothell, WA/Edmonds-Woodway) each contributed seven kills while Fontanet also chipped in a team-high 18 digs.
Kathleen Benson (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) served as another a key performer with six kills and a team-best three blocks.
The Setters tallied 10 aces in the contest, led by five off the hand of
Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's). Pace ranks third in the NE10 this season in aces per set (1.91). Vaiano also picked up 14 digs.
