Pace Baseball Downed by Molloy in Home Finale

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – In the final game played at Finnerty Field this season, the Pace University baseball team was defeated by Molloy College on Friday afternoon by a score of 6-2. The Setters (16-19-1, 10-14 NE10) will wrap up their regular season tomorrow with two more against the Lions in Rockville Centre.

Molloy did all of its damage across the three middle innings, recording a four runs in the fourth before adding a one in each the fifth and the sixth.

Sean Hogan provided the big hit for the Lions, hammering a bases-clearing, three-run double in the fourth to put Molloy up 4-0. Jack McCarty and Jake McCarthy would follow suit with RBI doubles of their own in the fifth and the sixth.

Pace's offense featured just six hits, half of which went for three bases. Paul Piccolino (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell), Harrison Treble (Oyster Bay, NY/Oyster Bay/St. Bonaventure) and Michael Salmonese (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) all legged out triples in the game. Piccolino and Treble were each stranded at third in the third and the fifth, while Salmonese scored on an RBI ground out from Andrew Fitzgerald (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand High School) in the seventh.

Salmonese was also a part of the Blue and Gold's other run as he knocked a sacrifice fly in the ninth. Brian Bohlander (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) scored on the play after singling to lead off the inning.

The Setters would go on to strand runners on first and second to end the game, finishing the game with 10 runners left on base.
