ALBANY, N.Y. – Entering the final weekend of the regular season as one of the hottest teams in the Northeast-10 Conference, the Pace University softball team extended their win streak to seven consecutive victories with a 2-0 win over Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon. Improving to 23-19 on the season and 15-9 in conference play, the Setters now sit in second place in the NE10's Southwest Division.
Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) once again starred in the circle, tossing seven shutout innings while allowing just three hits. The sophomore struck out five and retired 10 straight Golden Knight batters to begin the game. Bernet's sixth complete game shutout of the season lowers her ERA to 1.17, the lowest in the NE10. Additionally, with her 12
th win of the season, Bernet has earned her way into the program record books with the 12th most single-season wins by a Setter pitcher. Â
In a game controlled by the hurlers in the circle, the Pace bats were only able to muster five hits.
Stephanie Wang (Arcadia, CA/Arcadia) and
Jordan Chillinsky (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad High School) each had two-hit days, while
Ashley Lew (New City, NY/Clarkstown High School North) collected a double to account for the Setter offense.
Lew's double in the third set up Pace's first run of the day, as the senior reached with one out. Lew advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Wang single to put the Setters ahead 1-0.
The one run would be plenty for Pace to work with as Bernet never let a Saint Rose runner advance past second base. The Setters would tack on an insurance run in the sixth as a pair of errors allowed Chillinsky to score following a
Lindsey Ah Soon (Ewa Beach, HI/Kamehameha Kapalama) at bat.
Bernet allowed one hit over her final two innings of work to secure the 2-0 victory for the Setters.
