Pace Baseball Falls at Adelphi, 8-4

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Pace University baseball team was defeated by Adelphi University on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 8-4. The loss evens the season series between the Panthers and the Setters, and also shifts Pace to 6-6 inside the NE10 this season.

Junior Alex Busby (Landing, NJ/Roxbury / County College of Morris) was dealt the loss on the mound for the Blue and Gold, falling to 1-2 on the year. Staked a 3-0 lead in the second inning, Busby was replaced in the third after allowing five runs.

The Setters jumped out to the early advantage courtesy of RBI hits from Greg Tsouprakos (West Islip, NY/West Islip) and Matthew Kurdewan (Neptune, NJ/Red Bank Catholic). Kurdewan knocked in a pair with a double to center while Tsouprakos got the scoring started with a single up the middle.

Four-straight hits from the Panthers in the third, including a lead-off home run, yielded three runs of their own. They would then go on to add two more in the inning off RBI hits from Lucas Terwilliger and Brandon Morse.

Sitting with a 5-3 lead, the Panthers would tack on more runs in the fourth, sixth, and the eighth to build up a five-run edge.

Michael Barbato (Sparkill, NY/Tappan Zee) launched a solo home run in the eighth to produce Pace's final run of the game.

The Setters totaled seven hits and six walks in the contest, which ultimately led to leaving eight runners on base. Pace used five pitchers in the game.
