Pace Softball Splits Series Finale Doubleheader Against Le Moyne

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University softball team split their series-closing doubleheader against Le Moyne College on Saturday afternoon, winning the finale by a 4-0 final after falling 7-3 in the opener. The Setters' record moves to 5-13 and are now 3-5 in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Inside the Numbers
*Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) improved to 3-3 this season with a complete-game victory in Game Two. The sophomore went a full seven innings while allowing just four hits and striking out four. She has now gone the distance in three consecutive starts, allowing just three runs in that span.

*At the plate, Larissa Labs (Carlsbad, CA/San Marcos High School) continued to rake with a 4-for-7 day across the two games. The senior outfielder legged out a triple in each game to bring her season total to five. Labs also recorded her sixth RBI of the year in Game Two.

*Jordan Chillinsky (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad High School) and Lindsey Ah Soon (Ewa Beach, HI/Kamehameha Kapalama) both recorded a pair of hits in Game One. Chillinsky hit a pair of doubles and collected two RBIs in the opener.

*Seven different Setters combined for eight hits in the series finale. Briana Ryan (Wilmington, CA/Carson) and Tara Bernstein (Glen Oaks, NY/Bayside High School) joined Labs in the RBI column in Game Two.

Game One Recap: Le Moyne 7, Pace 3
The Dolphins were quick to get on the board in Saturday's opener, tagging MacKenzie Garrick (South River, NJ/South River) for two runs in the first inning. A pair of leadoff singles came around to score before Pace could come to the plate, putting the Setters in an early hole.

The Setters had their first scoring opportunity of the day in the third, after Labs collected Pace's first hit of the contest with a one-out triple. Ah Soon looked to drive her home one batter later with a fly ball to right field, but a Dolphin relay gunned Labs down at the plate and kept Pace off the scoreboard.

Garrick bounced back nicely from her first inning, allowing one hit over the next two innings. However, the freshman righty would find trouble again in the fourth. After a dropped foul ball allowed Le Moyne to extend an at bat, the Dolphins would score on a single followed up by a two-run home run by Jillian McManus. Garrick would end her day with 3.2 innings pitched with five runs allowed (two earned), as Jaclyn Flores (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual High School) came in for relief to hold Le Moyne's lead at 4-0.

Pace cut into the lead with a run in the fourth and fifth innings. Chillinsky drove in Niyah Brown (Chino, CA/Chino Hills) with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth, while Emma Schafer (Mission Viejo, CA/El Toro) drew a bases loaded walk one inning later to score Labs.

The Dolphins scored insurance runs in the sixth and seventh, and while the Setters were able to get another run on Chillinsky's second RBI double of the game in the bottom of the seventh, that would be all for the Pace bats. Alexis Eastman closed out a complete game in the circle for Le Moyne to take Game One, 7-3.

Game Two Recap: Pace 4, Le Moyne 0
Bernet provided a shutdown effort in the circle to end the day on a high note for Pace in the closer with her second complete-game shutout of the week.

Pace threatened in the first, loading the bases with only one away. Nothing would come of the opportunity as two straight strikeouts ended the frame without any damage.

The Dolphins would not get a hit until the fourth inning, but Bernet was able to strand Le Moyne runners on first and third with a pair of pop ups and a strikeout to work out of the jam.

The Setters would manage to break the scoreless pitchers duel in the fifth. After Ashley Lew (New City, NY/Clarkstown High School North) opened up the inning with a leadoff bunt, Labs struck with her second triple of the day to bring her home one batter later. While Labs was left stranded at third, the one run would be enough for Bernet to close out the game.

After the Dolphin threat in the fourth, Bernet allowed a lone hit over the fifth and sixth innings. The Setters added three runs of support in the sixth, capitalizing on two Le Moyne errors as Ryan and Bernstein collected RBIs in the frame. Now working with a 4-0 lead, Bernet worked around a leadoff double in the seventh to retire three straight Dolphins to close out the game and give Pace the series finale win.
