Big Second Half Propels Women's Basketball to 57-49 Win at Dominican

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Sparked by a game-tying 8-0 run to begin the second half, the Pace University women's basketball team rallied for a 57-49 win over Dominican College on Saturday afternoon. The victory moves the Setters' record to 12-11 this season.

Inside the Numbers
*Sophomore Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack) was all over the floor for the Setters, notching team-highs in almost every statistical category. She finished the game with 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a remarkable eight steals.

*Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) and Geena Rosalbo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) also reached double figures for Pace, combining for 23 points. Rosalbo chipped in five rebounds and three assists as well.

*Gabriella Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) tied DelliSanti for the team-lead in rebounds with seven, in addition to adding two assists and three points.

*Pace tied a season-high with 18 steals in the game. After DelliSanti's eight, the Setters had four players record at least two takeaways.

*After shooting just 25 percent from the floor in the first half—including a 1-of-10 effort from three-point land—the Setters made 16 of their 34 shots (47 percent) after halftime. Pace knocked in 3-of-4 from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter.

*Trailing by eight at the half, Pace outscored Dominican by 16 points in the second half.

How it Happened
It was a slow start for the Setters offensively in the first quarter, managing to score just five points over the first seven and a half minutes of the game. Dominican capitalized by jumping out to an 11-5 lead, and then taking a 16-9 advantage into the second quarter.

The second 10 didn't solve much for Pace as the Chargers began the frame with a 5-2 spurt to take their largest lead of the game at 21-11. Trailing by double digits for the first time, Pace began to chip away. A layup from Rosalbo cut the edge to 25-21 with less than three minutes left. Dominican, however, would score the final four points of the half to take a 29-21 lead into the break.

Facing an eight-point deficit at halftime, the Setters showed great resolve in the opening moments of the third quarter. The Blue and Gold scored the first eight points of the half to tie the game at 29-29. DelliSanti capped off the run with a layup off a steal from Rosalbo. Following a Dominican timeout, the teams exchanged three-consecutive field goals to even the score once again at 35-35. After a three-ball from Dominican, Pace received back-to-back baskets from Kristina Olikhver (Moscow, Russia/Saint Andrew's) to take their first lead (39-38) since the opening seconds of the game. DelliSanti would then close out the quarter with a layup to send the Setters up 42-40 after three.

The fourth quarter began in similar fashion to the third as Pace started the frame on an 11-2 run. Back-to-back long balls from Monteleone, plus a layup from Olikhver, provided the Setters with a 53-42 lead—their largest of the game. Following a Dominican timeout, Pace's pressure continued. The Setters allowed just four points over the game's final five and a half minutes. A basket by DelliSanti provided a 55-45 lead at the four-minute mark—which was more than enough cushion for a Pace team that allowed just nine points in the fourth quarter.
