Pace Women's Basketball Falls in Quarterfinal Matchup Against Bentley, 70-62

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Pace University women's basketball team was defeated in their Northeast-10 Conference Championship quarterfinal round matchup against Bentley University on Sunday evening, 70-62. The Setters end their winningest season since the 2011-12 campaign with a 15-14 overall record and an 11-9 mark in conference play.

Inside the Numbers
*Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) led the Setters with 20 points. It was the eighth time this season that the junior guard reached to 20 point mark, ending the season as Pace's leading scorer with 12.5 points per game. Monteleone shot seven-of-15 from the field, and was five-of-six from the free throw line.

*Lauren Schetter (Beacon, NY/Beacon High School) wrapped up her freshman campaign with a solid all-around effort. She finished second for Pace with 15 points on a five-of-nine shooting night, while adding another five points from the charity stripe. Schetter also added seven rebounds, finishing the season with a team-leading 170 boards.

*Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack) was the last Setter to reach double figures, scoring 10 points. The sophomore guard closed out the year as the leading rebounder in four straight games, leading the Setters with eight boards against the Falcons.

*Geena Rosalbo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) and Kristina Olikhver (Moscow, Russia/Saint Andrew's) each added six rebounds to contribute to Pace's 37 total boards. Seven different Setters recorded a rebound in the contest.

*The stingy Setter defense closed out the season with a seven steal performance. Schetter and Iliana Krasniqi (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) led the team with two takeaways apiece.

*A 22-7 Bentley run to close out the fourth quarter allowed the Falcons to erase a late Setters lead.

How it Happened
After Pace and Bentley played a tightly fought contest earlier in the season, the postseason rematch was another back and forth game. Five different lead changes over the opening ten minutes set the tone for the remainder of the night. Neither team was able to take a large lead, with the biggest advantage of the quarter being six in favor of the Setters following three pointers from Gabriella Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) and Olikhver. While Pace enjoyed the 12-6 lead momentarily, the Falcons were quick to respond by knotting the score even just under two minutes later. A layup from DelliSanti with under a minute on the clock would give the Blue and Gold a 16-14 advantage at the end of one.

Bentley would take the lead early in the second off a pair of free throws, but Pace swung momentum on to their side over the next three and a half minutes. A three pointer from Kayla Podlovits (Middle Village, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) kickstarted a 12-0 run for the Setters that put them back on top 28-17 with five minutes left in the half. The Falcons once again proved to be resilient, getting right back into the contest with a pair of three pointers from Megan Lewis. Bentley pulled to within three before a Rosalbo layup put the Setters up 30-25 with a minute and a half remaining. The Falcons would end the half with six consecutive points to take a narrow 31-30 advantage into the locker room.

DelliSanti connected on a jumper a minute into the third to put Pace back on top, 32-31. After Bentley reclaimed the lead with a Lauren Green three, Monteleone and Schetter took charge to propel the Blue and Gold for the remainder of the quarter. The duo combined for all 21 of Pace's points in the rest of the third, erasing a Falcon nine-point advantage. The Setters ended the quarter on an 11-5 run over the final five minutes to take a 53-48 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

A Montelone layup extended the Setter lead to seven to begin the fourth, but an 8-1 run for Bentley tied the score at 56-56 at the 5:53 mark. Green put Bentley back ahead a minute later with a layup, and the Falcons would never look back. Bentley would pull ahead 62-56 with 3:44 left on the clock, and while the Blue and Gold were able to pull to within four twice, they were unable to get any closer as the Falcons held off the comeback effort with the 70-62 win.
