SYRACUSE, N.Y. – In one of their most complete performances of the season, the Pace University women's basketball team earned a 64-41 win over Le Moyne College on Wednesday night. The Setters, who have now won five games in a row, improve their NE10 record to 11-7 this season. Pace now stands alone in second place in the Southwest Division standings.
Inside the Numbers
*The Setters put three players in double figures on Wednesday in the form of
Geena Rosalbo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis),
Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) and
Kristina Olikhver (Moscow, Russia/Saint Andrew's). Rosalbo and Monteleone each put in 14 while Olikhver added 11.
*Rosalbo also added team highs in both assists (5) and steals (2), continuing her strong play of late. Over her last five games, Rosalbo is averaging 11.4 points, 3.6 assists and 2.4 steals per contest.
*Sophomore
Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack) put forth a strong effort in her own right, finishing the game with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.
*Pace won the battle on the boards versus Le Moyne, 39-25, marking their highest margin of the season.
*Le Moyne's 41 points in the game marked the second-lowest total that Pace has surrendered this season.
*The Setters limited the Dolphins to just 28-percent shooting from the floor (15-of-54), which included a 1-for-11 effort from three-point range. Le Moyne didn't make their only three-pointer until 13 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
How it Happened
It was a slow start for the Setters in the first quarter as they scored just three points over the first four minutes. A strong defensive effort, however, allowed Pace some time to start clicking. A jumper from
Iliana Krasniqi (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde), which gave the Setters a 5-4 lead, served as the impetus to a strong end of the quarter. Monteleone and Olikhver scored the final six points of the frame, supplying Pace with a 14-8 lead after one.
The offense continued to be sharp for Pace in the second quarter, leading to an even larger cushion. Olikhver provided the Blue and Gold with a double-digit lead on a pair of occasions—the first coming at 22-12, and then once again at 26-16. The Setters' largest edge would be 30-18 after a DelliSanti layup with 10 seconds left in the half. Le Moyne would follow with a basket at the buzzer, sending Pace into the locker room with a 30-20 lead. Â
It was more of the same for the Setters after halftime, especially on the defensive end. After the Dolphins put in a bucket to begin the third, Pace rattled off eight-straight points to take a 38-22 lead with 7:44 left. From there, Le Moyne would never cut the lead down to single digits the rest of the game. A Rosalbo layup right before the third-quarter buzzer lifted the Blue and Gold to a 44-31 lead.
Holding the momentum since late in the first first quarter, the Setters officially closed the door on the Dolphins early in the final frame. An 11-0 run, beginning at the 6:06 mark, provided the Blue and Gold with a 61-33 advantage with less than three minutes remaining in regulation. Pace was able to coast to the finish line to complete the season sweep of Le Moyne.
