SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sitting as the No. 6 seed in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament, the Pace University volleyball team was defeated by third-seeded AIC, 3-1, in the quarterfinals on Tuesday night.
The Setters dropped the first two sets in extremely tight fashion (24-26, 25-27), before rebounding to take the third frame by a score of 25-15. AIC would clinch the victory, however, in the fourth game with a 25-17 triumph.
Junior
Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) piloted the Pace attack with a team-best 12 kills. She also added 15 digs en route to her 11th double-double of the season.
Senior
Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) and sophomore
Mackenzie Byrne (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) also put forth solid stat lines, combining for 18 kills. Byrne led the Setetrs with a .278 hitting percentage, while Fontanet chipped in eight digs.
Freshman
Katy Motz (Cedar Park, TX/Cedar Park) dished out many of the putaways on the night, finishing the match with a team-best 22 assists. She also chipped in two service aces and three digs.
Defensively, junior
Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) and sophomore
Christal Wong (Elk Grove, CA/Cosumnes Oaks) totaled 37 digs. Wong also helped out offensively, tallying six kills.
