Pace Football Continues Resurgence, Defeats Merrimack For Sixth Win

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – In another thrilling contest at Pace Stadium, the Pace University football team put together a 22-21 triumph over Merrimack College on Saturday afternoon. The victory marks the Setters' first-ever win over the Warriors, while also improving their record to 6-3 this season.

Fittingly on Pace's Senior Day, it was a Jhalen Bien-Aime (Dorchester, MA/Bridgton Academy) two-yard touchdown with 4:35 remaining in the fourth quarter that proved to be difference for the Setters. Another senior, Nick Fountis (Bellport, NY/Bellport), knocked in the crucial extra point to give the home squad a one-point lead.

Following the go-ahead score, Pace's defense sealed the triumph with a fourth-down stop on their own 38-yard line with less than a minute left on the clock.

The game as a whole yielded six lead changes, as both teams battled back and forth for most of the day. Bien-Aime also scored early in the fourth quarter, finding the end zone from three yards out to give Pace a 15-10 lead.

The Setters' other touchdown in the contest was a three-yard connection between Brandon Simmons (Willingboro, NJ/Holy Cross Academy) and Darius Jones (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) in the first quarter. Simmons finished the game with 208 yards through the air on 13 completions. Jones hauled in five of those catches, including a leaping grab in-between a pair of defenders on Pace's game-winning drive.

Defensively, the Setters once again got the job done. Seniors Prince Unaegbu (Boston, MA/Brighton) and Kadeem Langhorne (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) combined for 2.5 sacks while Harrison Moran-Fernandez (Union City, NJ/Union City) snagged his team-leading fourth interception of the season.
