How it Happened
Stonehill's three-point shooting told the story in the first half, turning what was a close opening 10 or so minutes into a large halftime lead. The Skyhawks put in 10 three-pointers in the opening frame, including a 7-for-9 finish to the half. The Setters hung tough to open the game courtesy of a strong defensive effort. It took Stonehill more than eight minutes to reach double figures in the scoring column, enabling Pace to nab a 12-10 lead at the 10:47 mark. The Skyhawks would answer with a 13-0 run over the next four minutes to seize an 11-point lead with less than seven minutes remaining in the half. The Skyhawks' edge would eventually grow to 17 at the break as Stonehill made their final three three-pointers of the opening half.
Similar to the beginning of the game, Pace started strong after halftime. The Setters' defense allowed just a single point over the first four and a half minutes, helping cut the lead to 38-28. The home team, however, once again responded strong, rattling off an 11-2 run to take a 49-30 advantage—their largest of the contest. Stonehill's lead would eventually shift to 54-36, but Pace had one more spurt left in them. The Setters put together a 12-3 run, capped off by back-to-back buckets from
Kevin Seymour (Bronx, NY/Blair Academy / Central Connecticut State University), to cut the edge to 57-48 at the 4:31 mark. A 7-0 stretch, however, for Stonehill would end Pace's final comeback attempt.
