Pace Women's Basketball Falters at Saint Michael's, 60-48

COLCHESTER, Vt. – A 15-0 Saint Michael's run to start the second half proved to be too much for the Pace University women's basketball team in a 60-48 defeat to the Purple Knights on Saturday afternoon. The loss moves the Setters to 7-5 inside the Northeast-10 Conference this season.

Inside the Numbers
*Junior guard Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) served as the offensive catalyst for the Setters, putting in a game-high 20 points. She did most of her damage from beyond the arc, knocking in four-of-seven attempts.

*Kristina Olikhver (Moscow, Russia/Saint Andrew's) and Lauren Schetter (Beacon, NY/Beacon High School) supplemented the offense with 12 points apiece. Schetter was productive in other areas as well, notching two blocks and two steals. She also dished out a team-best three assists.

*The Blue and Gold shot 36.7 percent from the field (18-of-49), making 6-of-19 from three-point range. Defensively, the Setters notched 10 steals and forced 20 turnovers.

*Saint Michael's finished 16-of-19 from the free-throw line, compared to 6-of-9 for the Setters. The Purple Knights had six different players score at least six points.

How it Happened
The first quarter set the tone for much of the afternoon as Saint Michael's jumped out to a 16-2 lead over the first eight minutes of the game. Although Pace would end the quarter on a 6-2 run, the 18-8 deficit put the Setters on the comeback trail for the rest of the contest.

The Blue and Gold were able to slightly trim the edge in the second quarter, but the Purple Knights' halftime lead of 26-19 was the closest Pace would get.

A 15-0 run to start the third quarter would be the major difference in the game. Pace missed their first four shots from the field after the break, and turned the ball over five times over the first five and half minutes of the frame. The tough start to the second half resulted in Saint Michael's stretching their advantage to 41-19 at the 4:49 mark.

Although Pace would outscore Saint Michael's, 29-19, the rest of the way, the 22-point deficit proved to be too much in a 60-48 final.

The Setters will play their second-straight road contest on Tuesday night when they travel to take on Stonehill at 5:30.
