LAKEWOOD, N.J. – On day one of the Georgian Court University Lions Invitational, the Pace University volleyball team dropped contests to the New York Institute of Technology (3-1) and East Stroudsburg University (3-0).
In the first match of the day against NYIT, the Setters were unable to sustain the success of a 27-25 opening-set triumph.
Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) put together her best match of the season against the Bears, tallying 12 kills and eight digs. Senior
Sydney Lecker (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) also impressed, finishing the match one kill shy of a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs.
In addition, freshman
Elien Peeters (Herdersem, Belgium/Onze Lieve Vrouwecollege) provided six kills and four blocks while
Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) recorded five put-aways and 16 digs.
Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) dished out a team-best 28 assists while
Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) led the squad with 18 digs.
Against the Warriors, it was Calimpong-Burke and Fontanet leading the way with four kills apiece. Vaiano was once again leading the defensive efforts with 23 digs.
Milestones
Individually, the Setters notched a bunch of milestones on Friday afternoon. Nidini surpassed 1,100 career assists while Fontanet eclipsed 800 all-time digs. In addition, Calimpong-Quinones tallied her 250
th dig and Lecker achieved her 700
th career kill.
