NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Playing on the road for the first time this season, the Pace University field hockey team picked up a 5-1 win over Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday night in New Haven. The victory improves the Setters to 2-0 this fall.
For a second-consecutive game, it was a dominant effort for the Blue and Gold. The Setters outshot SCSU, 31-3, including a 25-3 margin on net. In addition, Pace put together 11 penalty corners compared to the Owls' three.
Junior
Halley Rose (Dauphin, PA/Central Dauphin) put the Blue and Gold on the board at the 9:37 mark, finishing off a nice setup from
Jane Kasparian (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac).
Kasparian added to her stat line at 12:59, this time on the scoring side, to give Pace a 2-0 edge.
SCSU temporarily cut into the lead with a tally at the 19:50 mark of the first half. Despite outshooting the Owls, 12-2, at the break, the Blue and Gold held just a one-goal lead.
The Setters put the pressure into high gear during the second 35, depositing three more goals on the board.
Back-to-back tallies from junior
Jenna Sanossian (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point) provided the visitors some breathing room, and a 4-1 lead at 46:12 of the second half. Classmate
Paige Predmore (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Township) posted the assist on the second of the two goals.
Junior
Samantha Gray (Greenlawn, NY/Harborfields) capped off Pace's scoring with a goal at 61:56 of the second half. Predmore was once again the helping hand on the play, securing her second assist of the contest.
Senior goalkeeper
Lesly Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, CT/Stamford) made a pair of saves in net as she improved to 2-0 on the early season.

The Setters return home to take on Saint Anselm College on Saturday at 4 p.m. It will be Pace's Youth Day at Finnerty Field.
