ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Pace University volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Voller Athletic Center in Rochester, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon. The Setters opened the day with a 3-1 triumph (25-18, 21-25, 26-24, 25-12) over host Roberts Wesleyan College before dropping a 3-1 contest (18-25, 18-25, 27-25, 21-25) to Daemen College.
Match One: Pace 3, Roberts Wesleyan 1
The Setters split the first two frames against the home team before rallying in a four-set win. Following a tight 26-24 decision in the third, the Setters cruised to a 25-12 final-set triumph. The Blue and Gold recorded a season-high 11 blocks in the victory.
Sydney Lecker (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) and
Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) piloted the offense, posting near-identical double-doubles. Lecker finished with 11 kills and 10 digs while Fontanet's sixth double-double of the year consisted of 10 kills and 10 digs.
Sophomore
Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) also filled the stat sheet, finishing with four kills, four blocks, three service aces, and 16 digs.
Haley Kain (Huntersville, NC/William Amous Hough) and
Nicole Pivetti (Modena, Italy/Liceo Wiligelmo) combined for 31 assists while
Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) picked up 25 digs.
Match Two: Daemen 3, Pace 1
After losing the first two sets to the Wildcats, the Blue and Gold nearly forced a fifth game. Pace earned a 27-25 triumph in the third set before dropping a tight 25-21 decision in the fourth.
Lecker and Fontanet once again registered double-doubles while Calimpong-Burke added nine kills and nine digs. Fontanet led the way with 16 kills and 16 digs while hitting a team-high .341. Lecker followed with 10 put-aways of her own and 11 digs.
Calimpong-Burke also chipped in three more aces and four more blocks, upping her respective daily totals to seven and eight in the two matches.
Sophomore
Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) totaled 29 assists, to go along with seven digs. Freshman
Elien Peeters (Herdersem, Belgium/Onze Lieve Vrouwecollege) finished with five kills.
