GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Pace University baseball team saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday, as the Setters dropped a 4-1 decision to Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action at Bonomo Field.
SCORING PLAYS
Bottom 2nd – Adelphi
- A walk and back-to-back singles loaded the bases for the Panthers in the bottom of the second.
- Shortstop Michael Stack then singled up the middle, bringing in two runs to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead early on.
- Third baseman Steven Withers then singled in another run to put the home team ahead by three.
Top 5th – Pace
- Sophomore second baseman
Michael Salmonese (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) opened the fifth with a double to left.
- He moved to third on a groundout, and then scored on a sacrifice fly to center by junior third baseman
Matthew Kurdewan (Neptune, NJ/Red Bank Catholic), getting Pace back within two.
Bottom 5th – Adelphi
- Three walks loaded the bases for the Panthers with two away in the fifth, and then a wild pitch allowed a run to score, making it a 4-1 ballgame.

Pitching Notes
- Sophomore starter
Dan Wirchansky (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland/RCC) took the loss after allowing four runs across 4.2 frames. He struck out five batters.
- Adelphi starter Daniel Taggert allowed one run on three hits through five frames to pick up the win.
SETTER STATS
- Kurdewan had the only RBI for Pace after going 0-for-2 with a sacrifice fly.
