No. 11 Pace Women’s Lacrosse Makes Late Run for Thrilling Win at Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H. – The No. 11 Pace University women's lacrosse team was pushed near its limits on the road on Saturday at Franklin Pierce University, but the Setters proved their resilience by fighting back late to pick up at 13-12 victory in Northeast-10 Conference action at Sodexo Field. Junior Stephanie Chadnick (Brewster, NY/Brewster) netted the game-tying goal with 10:18 left, and junior Abby Haimson (Montville, NJ/Montville) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 5:52 remaining to lead the Setters to the win. The Setters set a new program record by earning their 11th win of the season.
 
FIRST HALF
- Haimson netted the first goal of the game, but Franklin Pierce's Anna Wilbert quickly tied it up.
- Junior Angela Kelly (Garnerville, NY/North Rockland) gave Pace the lead back, but Caitlin Sweeney tied it up once again just seconds later for the Ravens.
- Haimson then netted her second of the day at the 21:44 mark to put Pace back in the lead.
- Briana Sweeney tied the game at the 17:26 mark, and Caitlin Sweeney put the Ravens ahead, 4-3, about five minutes later.
- Freshman Mary Kate Lonegan (Brewster, NY/Brewster) tied it up once again, and then junior Casey Gelderman (Farmingville, NY/Sachem High School East) put Pace back in the lead, 5-4, with 5:17 left until halftime.
- Brianna Sweeney quickly scored again to tie the game, and then Caitlin Sweeney followed at the 3:14 mark to put the Ravens back in the lead.
- Junior Makayla McDermott (Greenlawn, NY/Elwood-John Glenn) then tied it up with 2:40 left, sending the game to halftime with a 6-6 stalemate.
 
SECOND HALF
- Caitlin Sweeney got the scoring started in the second half at 28:23, but Gelderman responded 15 seconds later to tie it up at 7-7.
- Morgan Riley scored for Franklin Pierce, but Lonegan netted her second to tie it up once again.
- Anna Wilbert and Brianna Sweeney scored back-to-back to give the Ravens a two-goal advantage.
- McDermott got Pace back within one, but Julia Miller put the Ravens back in front by two.
- Chadnick and Haimson scored back-to-back goals to tie it up at 11-11.
- Caitlin Sweeney gave Franklin Pierce another lead at 12:50, but Chadnick tied it up once again at 10:18.
- Haimson then scored the game-winning goal at 5:52 to give the Setters the narrow one-goal victory.

Goalkeeper Notes
- Junior goalkeeper Alissa Silvestri (Congers, NY/Clarkstown North) made five saves to earn the win on Saturday.
- Franklin Pierce netminder Denise Hunt stopped a game-high 16 shots.
 
SETTER STATS
- Sophomore defender Alexandra Maitland-Ward (Hampton Bays, NY/Hampton Bays) was awarded a game ball in the locker room for stepping up late in the game to help Pace get the win. She finished with four draw controls and a caused turnover.
- Haimson totaled six points on four goals and two assists to lead the Setter offense.
- Gelderman scored twice, grabbed four ground balls and four draw controls, and caused three turnovers.
- Lonegan, McDermott and Chadnick all scored two goals apiece. Chadnick also scooped up three ground balls.
- Kelly totaled two points on a goal and an assist, adding two ground balls.
 
RAVEN LEADERS
- Caitlin Sweeney scored five times, while Briana Sweeney finished with five points on three goals and two assists.
- Wilbert scored twice, while Riley and Miller netted the other two goals.
