GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Pace University baseball team dropped a 5-1 decision at Adelphi University in Tuesday's Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division matchup at Bonomo Field.
SCORING PLAYS
Bottom 1st – Adelphi
- With one out, designated hitter Brett Malm tripled to left-center.
- First baseman Robert Vani then reached on an error, allowing Malm to score and give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
- Left fielder Brandon Morse then singled up the middle, scoring Vani to make it a 2-0 game.
Bottom 4th – Adelphi
- Right fielder Eric Hassell led off the fourth with a double to left.
- He then scored after a wild pitch and an error, making it a 3-0 lead for Adelphi.
- Shortstop Michael Stack later reached on an error, and then scored from second on a single by third baseman Steven Withers to put the home team ahead by four.
Bottom 5th – Adelphi
- Vani led off the fifth with a solo homer to left to put the Panthers up, 5-0.
Top 7th – Pace
- Senior center fielder
John Kukura (New City, NY/Clarkstown South) singled to left to kick off the seventh.
- Sophomore shortstop
Michael Salmonese (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) followed with a single to right-center, and then senior first baseman
Garrett De Lotto (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) drew a walk to load the bases.
- With one away, senior designated hitter
Domenick Luongo (Darien, CT/Cardinal Spellman) singled to center, scoring Kukura to make it a 5-1 ballgame.

Pitching Notes
- Adelphi starter Ed Baram tossed seven innings, allowing one run on eight hits with four walks.
