No. 13 Pace Women’s Lacrosse Wins Seventh in a Row with Victory over Merrimack

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 13 Pace University women's lacrosse team extended its program-record winning streak to seven games, and improved to a perfect 5-0 in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday, as the Setters defeated Merrimack College, 17-5, at Pace Stadium. The win was the Setters' first in program history against the Warriors.
 
FIRST HALF
- Merrimack's Amber Feminella got the Warriors on the board first with a goal at the 25:36 mark of the first half.
- The Setters then went on a three-goal run, beginning with a free-position goal by junior Angela Kelly (Garnerville, NY/North Rockland).
- Junior Casey Gelderman (Farmingville, NY/Sachem High School East) scored shortly after, and then junior Abby Haimson (Montville, NJ/Montville) added another at the 20:47 mark to make it a 3-1 Setter lead.
- Kyra Schwartzman then got Merrimack back within one, and Hunter McCarthy then tied the game for Merrimack at the 16:02 mark.
- Freshman Mary Kate Lonegan (Brewster, NY/Brewster) then scored back-to-back goals to put the Setters ahead, 5-3.
- Gelderman followed that up with three straight goals of her own to make it an 8-3 game.
- Sophomore Courtney Pabst (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport) extended Pace's run to six straight goals to make it a 9-3 Pace lead heading into the break.
 
SECOND HALF
- Ally DaCosta scored the first goal of the half for Merrimack to get the Warriors back within five.
- Haimson got one back, and then Pabst netted two in a row to put the Setters ahead, 12-4.
- Lonegan then scored her third of the game on a free-position attempt, giving the Setters a nine-goal lead with 21:11 left in the second half.
- Annette Ruggiero got the Warriors back on the board, but Gelderman netted her fifth on a free-position with 6:15 remaining to keep the Setters up by nine.
- Lonegan then added her fourth goal of the game with 5:29 left in regulation to give Pace a 15-5 advantage.
- Haimson put her third of the game in the back of the net at the 3:41 mark stretch Pace's lead to 11.
- Freshman Johnna Leone (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) added one more with 1:21 remaining to secure Pace's 12-goal win.

Loss: Lauren Trepaney (1-3)

- Silvestri stopped five shots to pick up her seventh win of the year.
 
SETTER STATS
- Gelderman led all scorers with five goals and nine draw controls in Pace's victory on Saturday.
- Lonegan scored a career-high four goals and added a ground ball and a caused turnover.
- Haimson and Pabst each scored three times, while Pabst added four draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
- Kelly picked up two points on a goal and an assist, while also scooping up three ground balls.
- Junior Najmah James (Danbury, CT/Danbury) caused two turnovers and grabbed two draw controls.
 
WARRIOR LEADERS
- DaCosta picked up three points on a goal and two assists.
- Feminella had a two-point day with a goal and an assist.
 
HOW'D THEY STACK UP
- Pace tried 41 shots in the game to just 16 for Merrimack.
- The Setters put 35 shots on goal, while the Warriors got just 10 on target.
- Pace won the turnover battle, 18-5.
- The Setters also held a 15-12 edge in ground balls, and a 19-5 lead in draw controls.
