PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University baseball team pitching staff was outstanding on Sunday, holding Saint Anselm College to just one run across two games as the Setters swept the Hawks in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Peter X. Finnerty Field. Junior starter
Kyle Cashman (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) went seven strong to lead Pace to a 6-1 win in Game 1, and then sophomore
Kevin Wiltse (East Setauket, NY/Ward Mellville) turned in a stellar seven-inning effort to lift the Setters to a 6-0 victory in the finale.
GAME 1: PACE 6, SAINT ANSELM 1
SCORING PLAYS
Bottom 1st – Pace
- Senior center fielder
John Kukura (New City, NY/Clarkstown South) got things started quickly with a leadoff ground-rule double to left.
- A single by junior shortstop
Paul Piccolino (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) put runners on the corners, setting up senior first baseman
Garrett De Lotto (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) for an RBI single to short to put Pace ahead, 1-0.
- Junior left fielder
Michael Gulino (Meriden, CT/Maloney) then hit a ground-rule double to left-center, scoring Piccolino to double the lead.
- De Lotto later scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.
- Senior right fielder
Cory Capaldi (Telford, PA/Souderton) brought in the fourth run of the inning on a fielder's choice that scored Gulino from third, leaving Pace on top, 4-0.
Bottom 6th – Pace
- De Lotto led off the sixth with a triple to right-center, and quickly scored on an RBI single by Gulino that gave Pace a five-run lead.
- Sophomore second baseman
Michael Salmonese (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) later ripped a single up the middle, scoring Gulino to make it 6-0.
Top 8th – Saint Anselm
- Shortstop Max Wadington knocked in the only run of the game for the Hawks with an RBI single in the eighth.

Pitching Notes
- Cashman gave up just one run on six hits while striking out three batters to get his first win of 2017.
- Junior reliever
Anthony Criscione (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) tossed the final two frames, striking out two batters and allowing just two hits without a run.
GAME 1 SETTER STATS
- Gulino finished 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a double.
- De Lotto also went 2-for-4, scoring twice while knocking in another run and hitting a triple.
- Salmonese and Capaldi each batted 1-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.
GAME 1 HAWK LEADERS
- Second baseman Matthew Flynn hit 2-for-3 with a run scored.
- Wadington hit 1-for-4 with the only RBI of the game for the Hawks.
- Left fielder John Marculitis finished 2-for-4.

SCORING PLAYS
Bottom 1st – Pace
- Salmonese hit a single to right with one away, and then stole second to move into scoring position.
- Salmonese then advanced to third on a balk, and was knocked in on a single by Gulino to put the Setters ahead, 1-0.
Bottom 2nd – Pace
- Sophomore catcher
Michael Barbato (Sparkill, NY/Tappan Zee) and Kukura scored on back-to-back wild pitches to make it a 3-0 game.
- Salmonese later scored on another balk to go ahead, 4-0.
Bottom 5th – Pace
- Gulino walked to lead off the inning, and then quickly stole second.
- Senior designated hitter
Domenick Luongo (Darien, CT/Cardinal Spellman) later singled to right-center, plating Gulino from second to put the Setters ahead by five.
Bottom 6th – Pace
- With Salmonese on first, De Lotto hit his second triple of the day to deep right-center to leave the Setters on top, 6-0.
GAME 2 PITCHING DECISIONS

Kevin Wiltse (East Setauket, NY/Ward Mellville) (2-0)

Pitching Notes
- Wiltse threw seven scoreless frames while giving up just two hits and striking out four to earn his second win.
- Senior reliever
James Wynne (North Salem, NY/North Salem) came on in the eighth and did not allow a run.
- Junior closer
Michael Amato (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East/Suffolk CC) pitched a hitless ninth and struck out one batter.
GAME 2 SETTER STATS
- Salmonese scored three times after going 2-for-4, also stealing two bases.
- De Lotto went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.
- Kukura finished 2-for-5 with a run scored.
- Gulino scored a run, knocked in another and stole a base in his 1-for-4 outing.

Jim Thorpe IV (Naugatuck, CT/Holy Cross) hit 1-for-4 with a stolen base.
GAME 2 HAWK LEADERS
- Flynn and designated hitter Tyler McKeon each hit 1-for-4 for the Hawks' only hits of the game.
