Pace Softball Falls in Florida Finale to Concordia-St. Paul

CLERMONT, Fla. –  The Pace University softball team fell behind early and could not make up the difference in Saturday's PFX Spring Games finale against Concordia University-St. Paul at Hancock Park Field 1. The Setters fell to the Golden Bears, 8-1, to finish up the week down in Florida.
 
SCORING PLAYS
Bottom 1st – Concordia
- Concordia's first two runs came in on a throwing error that brought both the runner and batter in to score, making it a quick 2-0 lead for the Golden Bears.
- First baseman Liz Jarosz later hit a two-RBI double to make it a 4-0 game.
- Right fielder Sarah Kivisto then added an RBI single to bring in Jarosz and leave Concordia up, 5-0, after one.
 
Bottom 2nd – Concordia
- Designated player Haley Schanks hit a two-run homer to left to make it a 7-0 game.
 
Top 3rd – Pace
- With two down and junior left fielder Tara Bernstein (Glen Oaks, NY/Bayside High School) on first, senior designated player Haley Hernandez (West Hills, CA/El Camino Real) roped a double to center to put two runners in scoring position and keep the inning going.
- Junior center fielder Larissa Labs (Carlsbad, CA/San Marcos High School) then singled into left, bringing Bernstein home to get Pace on the board.
 
Bottom 6th – Concordia
- Pinch hitter Lauren Bartel made the most of her lone at bat, hitting a solo home run to right-center to give the Golden Bears an 8-1 lead.
 
PITCHING DECISIONS
Win: Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker) (1-2)
Loss: Samantha Sullivan (4-5)
 
Pitching Notes
- Junior Jaclyn Flores (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual High School) took over in the second, and tossed four innings in relief. She allowed just one run on three hits while striking out three.
- Concordia starter Samantha Sullivan went the complete seven innings, giving up one run on six hits.
 
SETTER STATS
- Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a double.
- Labs hit 1-for-3 with the only Pace RBI.
- Bernstein batted 1-for-1 with a double and a pair of walks.
- Junior right fielder Jordan Chillinsky (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad High School) batted 1-for-2, while freshman third baseman Emma Schafer (Mission Viejo, CA/El Toro) went 1-for-3. Chillinsky also stole a base.
 
GOLDEN BEAR LEADERS
- Schanks went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs, a home run and a double.
- Jarosz batted 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs and a double.
- Shortstop Justine Schattner hit 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

UP NEXT:
- Pace comes back up north and is scheduled to next play on Thursday, March 23, in a doubleheader at home against East Stroudsburg University. First pitch of Game 1 is set for 3 p.m.
