NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Pace University men's basketball team dropped a 96-63 decision to Northeast-10 Conference foe Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) Tuesday evening at the Moore Field House in the Setters 2016-17 season finale.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
- SCSU's Michael Mallory kicked off the scoring with a jumper 11 seconds into the game.
- Shortly after, freshman
Vinny Dalessandro (Levittown, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) gave the Setters an early lead with a three-pointer from the wing.
- A late 18-4 run for the Owls gave them a 51-21 lead heading into the locker room.
HALFTIME LEADERS
- Graduate student
Christian White (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute / Syracuse University) led the Setters with six points and six rebounds after playing an aggressive first half.
- Mallory had a game-high 13 points and five assists in the opening frame.
SECOND HALF
- The Setters doubled up their first-half production with 42 points in the second stanza, nearly matching their hosts' 45 points, but the Setters ultimately could not come back in Tuesday evening's season-closing contest.
SETTER STATS
- White tallied 18 points in the second half to finish with a game-high 24 points. He also ended up with team-highs of eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.
- Sophomore
Ryan Peterson (Wethersfield, CT/St. Thomas More) added 13 points, while senior
Austin Mofunanya (Englewood, NJ/Dwight Morrow / Lincoln College of NE) 11 points, seven boards and a block.
OWL LEADERS
- Mallory led the home team with 23 points and eight assists.
- Isaiah McLeod totaled 17 points, while Austin Carter added nine points and a game-high 11 boards.
