Pace Women’s Basketball Drops Road Tilt to No. 16 Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Pace University women's basketball team took on No. 16 Adelphi University for the second time this season on Wednesday, falling to the Northeast-10 Conference's top-team by a score of 64-54 at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
- Capped off with a three-pointer by senior Christina Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic / Iona College), the Setters jumped out to a 7-3 lead to start Wednesday's contest.
- Adelphi came back with the next seven points to take the lead, but sophomore Stefanie Svoboda (Ossining, NY/Ossining) drained a three to knot things up at 10-10 with 3:59 left in the period.
- Another seven-point run for the Panthers put them on top, 17-10, before a pair of free throws by sophomore Heather Kiczek (Wallkill, NY/Wallkill) got Pace back within five.
- Adelphi's Julia Gnieser hit a three at the Buzzer to put the Panthers ahead by eight heading into the second quarter.
 
2ND QUARTER
- Adelphi pushed its lead to 15 fewer than three minutes into the second period.
- An 8-0 run for the Setters then made it a 27-20 game, but the Panthers finished the half on a 9-5 run to go to the half with a 36-25 lead.
 
HALFTIME STATS
- Sophomore Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) led the Setters with 10 points at the break.
- Adelphi's Sierra Clark and Calli Balfour each had 11 points at the half.
 
THIRD QUARTER
- The Setters came flying out of the gate, scoring the first eight points of the second half to pull within three.
- The game stayed close for the remainder of the third, but the Panthers managed to take a six-point advantage into the final quarter with a 46-40 lead.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
- Adelphi's lead grew to eight early in the final frame, but back-to-back twos for Monteleone brought the Setters back within four at 48-44 with 8:51 left to play.
- The Panthers went on to score the next nine points, and kept their lead throughout the remainder of the game.
 
SETTER STATS
- Monteleone matched her career-high in the game, scoring 23 points for the third time this season.
- Freshman Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack) added 10 points and six boards.
- Senior Kirsten Dodge (Fabius, NY/Fabius-Pompey) blocked six shots and picked up a team-high seven rebounds.
- Kiczek dished out a team-best four assists.
 
PANTHER LEADERS
- Sierra Clark finished with a double-double after scoring 23 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. She also blocked four shots.
- Calli Balfour added 16 points and seven boards.

WHAT'S NEXT?
- The Setters return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 7, when they host Le Moyne College at the Goldstein Fitness Center. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
- Tuesday will be T-Bone Bobblehead Day, where the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a bobblehead of their favorite mascot, T-Bone!
