Pace Women's Basketball Edged at Molloy, 48-43

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The Pace University women's basketball team was defeated at Molloy College on Wednesday night, 48-43. The loss moves the Setters to 8-3 overall this season while remaining at 5-1 in conference play.
 
Inside the Numbers
*Sophomore Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack) led Pace with 15 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Iliana Krasniqi (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) was the only other Setter in double figures with 10 points.
 
*The Blue and Gold shot a season-low 26.7 percent (16-of-60) from the field en route to recording their lowest scoring output of the year. Pace finished 0-for-15 from beyond the arc.

*Pace pulled down a season-high 19 offensive rebounds compared to just six for Molloy. Kristina Olikhver (Moscow, Russia/Saint Andrew's) led Pace with five offensive boards.

*Defensively, the Setters forced 25 Molloy turnovers and limited the Lions to just 35.1 percent from the floor. Molloy finished 20-of-25 from the free-throw line.

How it Happened
For a second-straight game, the Setters found themselves in an early hole that ended up setting the tone for the rest of the contest. Molloy began the game on an 11-0 run, forcing Pace to play from behind for most of the game. Pace would close out the opening quarter by outscoring Molloy, 7-4, to head into the second trailing, 15-7.

The Setters opened up the second quarter by scoring the first five points to pull the game back to a single possession. The Lions responded with two baskets of their own to go back up by seven. The score would hover around that seven-point margin for the remainder of the quarter, as both teams traded baskets. Molloy would strike last, hitting a three pointer in the closing seconds to take a 28-20 lead.

Pace began to mount their comeback effort in the third, outscoring Molloy 10-5 in the quarter. The Setters went on an 8-2 run over five minutes in the period to pull to within four, trailing 32-28. After a Molloy free-throw pushed the lead back up to five, a jumper by Krasniqi brought Pace back to within a single possession, heading into the final quarter trailing 33-30.

The Blue and Gold managed to take their first lead of the game three minutes into the fourth, opening the quarter on a 4-0 run. The teams traded the lead three times over the ensuing four minutes, with Molloy taking a 41-39 advantage with three minutes to play. The Lions were able to protect the lead for the remainder of regulation, outscoring the Setters 7-4 to close out the contest with the 48-43 final.

The Blue and Gold will return home to take on Stonehill on Sunday (3 p.m.) for their final contest before semester break.
