Pace Women's Basketball Defeats LIU Post, 83-74

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Fueled by a combined 47 points from Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack) and Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane), the Pace University women's basketball team improved to 2-0 this season with an 83-74 win over LIU Post on Sunday afternoon in Old Westbury, N.Y.

Inside the Numbers
DelliSanti poured in a career-high 24 points, while Monteleone—who led Pace in scoring on Saturday—added 23 of her own. The duo finished an efficient 19-of-31 from the floor, while making 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. DelliSanti also snagged seven rebounds, tying with freshman Iliana Krasniqi (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) for the team lead.

Senior Gabriella Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) was the only other Setter to reach double-figures with 12, while freshman Lauren Schetter (Fishkill, NY/Beacon High School) put in nine. Rubin finished the game with a team-high four assists.

As a team, the Setters swiped 14 steals and forced 25 LIU Post turnovers.

How it Happened
The Setters forced 15 Pioneer turnovers and allowed just 26 first-half points, on the way to building up a halftime lead of 13. The trio of Rubin, DelliSanti and Monteleone totaled 25 of the Setters' 39 points in the opening two quarters.

After going down 10-4, the Setters closed out the first quarter on a 13-2 run. Another 10-2 stretch in the second quarter provided some nice breathing room at the break.

Monteleone put forth her best quarter the third, scoring 10 of Pace's 22 points in the frame. Behind Monteleone, and another six forced turnovers, Pace held its 13-point edge going into the final quarter of action.

With a lead heading into the fourth, it was going to be imperative for the Blue and Gold to capitalize from the free-throw line. They did just that. Pace made 12-of-13 from the charity stripe in the final 10 minutes. That, along with another nine points from DelliSanti, allowed the Setters to ice the game away.

Up Next
The Blue and Gold will be the front half of a men's and women's doubleheader at the Goldstein Fitness Center on Wednesday night. Pace is set take on Adelphi University at 5:30 p.m.
