Pace Football Finishes Season with Loss at Southern Connecticut

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In the final game of the 2017 season, the Pace University football team was defeated at Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday by a 34-0 margin. The Setters complete the year with a record of 3-7.

Inside the Numbers
It was a tough offensive outing for the Blue and Gold as they failed to get in the scoring column for the second time this season. Pace finished the game with a season-low 82 yards of offense.

Freshmen Alex Benson (Brookhaven, Miss./Beacon (N.Y.)) and Anthony Carter-Guy (Englewood, NJ/Dwight Morrow) found the most success in the Setters' backfield, totaling 59 yards. Nick DeVere (Novato, CA/Marin Catholic) caught a pair of passes for 13 yards. Junior Nick Fountis (Bellport, NY/Bellport) punted nine times, averaging 35.1 yards per attempt.

How it Happened
It was tough sledding for the Pace attack in the first half, mustering just 66 total yards and punting five times. The Setters had their best scoring chance after recovering a fumble on an Owls' punt return in their own territory in the second quarter. Pace's ensuing 41-yard field-goal attempt, however, was blocked.

Southern Connecticut took a 21-0 lead into the break courtesy of 71-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ray Catapano in the first quarter, and a pair of short rushing touchdowns in the second. The Owls recorded 323 yards of offense in the first half.

Southern Connecticut added to its scoring in the second half with another scoring toss from Catapano and a pair of field goals.
