PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – On a night where the senior members of the Pace University women's soccer team were honored, it was a pair of juniors that helped propel the Setters to victory in their final game of the regular season, defeating Le Moyne College by a score of 2-1 on Saturday.
The win not only improves the Setters' record to 8-5-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference, it also officially clinches the No. 5 seed for Pace in the upcoming NE10 Tournament. The Setters, which will be making their second-straight tournament berth, will travel to take on fourth-seeded Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Pace defeated the Ravens, 1-0, during the regular season.
Victoria Kealy (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) was once again able to find the net at a critical time for the Blue and Gold, as her team-leading seventh goal of the season off a pass from freshman
Mackenzie Kurek (Goshen, NY/Goshen Central) in the 74
th minute broke a 1-1 tie. The score was Kealy's third game-winner of the season, which ties her with senior
Emma Sinanan (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) for the team lead in the category. The assist was Kurek's third for the year.
Junior
Leah Krinker (Maitland, FL/Trinity Prep) put Pace on the board with her first goal of the season in the 38
th minute, knocking in a pass from freshman
Annabella Campagna (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury). Campagna picked up her first point of the season on the helper.
The Setters would take the 1-0 advantage into halftime, and held it for almost 20 minutes into the final half. The Dolphins were able to break through the Pace defense in the 64
th minute, as Elizabeth Maguire scored her first goal of the season. The Blue and Gold recovered quickly from the score, setting up Kealy's winner just 10 minutes later.
Despite being outshot 19-13 on the night by the Dolphins, the Setters were able to limit second chances by Le Moyne in the scoring zone and prevent many open looks at the goal.
In net, senior
Hayley Pascoal (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township) made a season-high 10 saves in her final regular-season match at Pace Stadium in a full 90 minutes of play, surrendering the single goal. She finishes the regular season allowing just 12 goals and a goals-allowed average of 0.81. Her .859 save percentage this season is third-best in the NE10.
