EAST STROUDBURG, Pa. – The Pace University women's volleyball team kicked off the 2016 season on the right foot on Friday, sweeping both Lincoln University and Caldwell University, 3-0, on Day 1 of the East Stroudsburg University Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Pace hit a spectacular .524 in the first set for a quick 25-9 win.
- The Setters struggled a bit in Set 2, but still managed to pull off a 25-19 victory.
- Another solid game for Pace with just two errors and a .267 hitting percentage for a 25-11 win to sweep the match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Pace hit .205 in the match, while Lincoln finished with a hitting percentage of .000

Amy Vicic (Surrey, British Columbia/Earl Marriott) led Pace with six kills and hit at a .500 clip.

Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) dished out 12 assists, and matched
Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) with 3 block assists.

Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) picked up 10 digs.

Samantha Marquez (Palmetto Bay, FL/Miami Palmetto/Palm Beach State College) and Calimpong-Burke tallied five and four kills, respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A highly competitive match saw its first set come down to the wire, with Pace picking up the 27-25 win.
- The Setters were helped in the first game by Caldwell's 11 errors.
- Set 2 also went to extra points, and Pace came out on top, 28-26, after narrowly winning the hitting percentage battle, .234 to .222.
- Pace controlled the final set to earn a 25-20 win and another sweep.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) hit .385 en route to a team-high 13 kills.
- Fontanet and Vaiano matched with a team-best 18 digs.
- Nidini stepped it up to hand out 27 assists in her second collegiate match.

Sydney Lecker (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) and Calimpong-Burke each added eight kills. Lecker added nine digs, while Calimpong-Burke served up a pair of aces.

Kathleen Benson (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) totaled a match-high six blocks, and also threw down seven kills.

- Pace opened last season with an 0-5 record.
- The Setters' tough start included a 3-1 loss to Caldwell

- Pace will play in Day 2 of the East Stroudsburg Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 3.
