Barry Moriarty Named ECAC Dr. Donald Grover Memorial Award Recipient

DANBURY, Conn. – Pace University Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine Barry Moriarty has been selected as this year's recipient of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Dr. Donald Grover Memorial Award, as announced by the ECAC on Friday. Moriarty has been Pace's Head Athletic Trainer since 1981.

Moriarty was Pace's first-ever full-time certified athletic trainer, and has been in that position for 36 years. Prior to the 2015-16 academic year, Moriarty was promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine in addition to his title as Head Athletic Trainer.

"I am extremely honored to receive this highly prestigious award from the ECAC," said Moriarty. "I am truly humbled by the selection and am looking forward to being a part of the Honors Dinner."

For his first 17 years, Moriarty served a dual role as the Head Athletic Trainer and Head Equipment Manager. In addition to his athletic training duties, he has served as the Chairperson of the Health and Wellness Curriculum Department for the last 29 years. On top of the chairperson role, he also serves as an adjunct professor in the College of Health Professions, teaching Care and Prevention of Athletic Injury, Wellness and Fitness, and Golf courses. Moriarty has also served on the Pace University Wellness Committee and is a voting member of the Pace Athletics Hall of Fame Committee.

Moriarty has touched the lives of countless student-athletes over the years. His commitment to his professional can be seen every day in the preventative care, therapy and rehabilitation that he provides on a daily basis for Pace's 14 NCAA Division II athletics programs.

The Dr. Donald Grover Memorial Award was established by the family of Dr. Donald Grover in 2005 to present an annual award to a practicing athletic trainer and/or team physician. During his career, Dr. Grover was very involved with Syracuse University athletics and became committed to the value of collegiate athletics and the involvement of the athletic training profession. A committee of athletic trainers has been established to review nominees.

Moriarty will be bestowed the Dr. Donald Grover Memorial Award at the 2016 ECAC Honors Dinner, which will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Matrix Conference & Banquet Center in Danbury, Conn. Guests can purchase tickets online now for $125 each, as well as tables (10 seats) for $1,250. Tickets need to be purchased no later than Friday, Sept. 16.
