MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Pace University baseball team faced off with nationally-ranked No. 11 Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader on Saturday. The host Penmen took both games, winning 10-0 and 7-1 at Penmen Field. The Setters fall to 17-11 overall and 5-4 in NE-10 play, while SNHU improves to 24-3 and 9-1.
Game 1: No. 11 SNHU 10, Pace 0The Setters had a rough go in game one after making the long trip up to Manchester, N.H. The nationally-ranked Penmen scattered 10 runs throughout the middle innings of the game, while Pace was unable to get on the board.
SNHU's Justin Valdespina went the complete nine innings without allowing a run to improve to 5-2 on the year. Graduate starter
Tim Deegan (Levittown, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) took his first loss of the season after making the start in Saturday's opener.
The Penmen were led by first baseman Derek Bauer, who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs and a home run. Second baseman Mike Mastroberti hit 1-for-4, but knocked in three runs and hit a triple.

Garrett De Lotto (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) batted 1-for-1 with a pair of walks in the game. Sophomore catcher
Michael Gulino (Meriden, CT/Maloney) hit 1-for-3.
Games 2: No. 11 SNHU 7, Pace 1Senior starter
Josh Garran (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Regional) got off to a tough start in Saturday's finale, but finished up with a solid outing. SNHU scored seven runs (four earned) in the bottom of the first, but got nothing from that point forward. Garran finished all eight innings for the Setters, striking out 11 batters for the game. He allowed just two hits and no runs through the final seven innings.
De Lotto knocked in the lone run for the Setters in game two, bringing in junior right fielder
Cory Capaldi (Telford, PA/Souderton) on a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth. He finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Capaldi went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a double in the game. Gulino batted 1-for-3 with a double, while Kukura got a double of his own in a 1-for-4 effort.
SNHU starter Alex Person improved to 5-0 after giving up one run through eight innings. Shortstop Manny Cruz batted 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a run and a triple. Center fielder Carson Helms hit 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a double in the game. Third baseman Zach Goldstein went 2-for-4 while knocking in a run and scoring another.
The Setters have another set of big matchups on Sunday, as they take on a familiar foe in No. 3 Franklin Pierce University up in Rindge, N.H. The Ravens took a 6-4 win down in Cary, N.C. in a back-and-forth matchup back on March 19. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 12 p.m.
