NEW YORK, N.Y. – Grad student
Jaclyn Oskam (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central / Quinnipiac University) recorded her second double-double of the season as the Pace University women's basketball team hosted Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Civic Center Gym on Pace's New York City campus Wednesday evening. The Setters fell to the Panthers, 59-48, and fall to 10-13 overall and 5-10 in the NE-10. Adelphi improves to 15-8 overall and 8-7 in conference play.
Oskam scored 12 points, all on three-pointers, and pulled down 10 rebounds to complete the double-double in the Setters' first game at the Civic Center Gym since 2010. Her four long balls also match her season best total.
A highly defensive first half resulted in an even 21-21 halftime score. Pace tallied 12 steals in the first two periods, led by freshman
Stefanie Svoboda (Ossining, NY/Ossining)'s five takeaways at the break. Svoboda went on to finish with a season-high six steals in the game.
Adelphi took a 28-24 lead early on in the third quarter, but senior
Yuni Sher (Poughkeepsie, NY/Long Island Lutheran) sank her first three-pointer of the season to get the Setters back within one. She then drew a foul, and made both chances to give Pace a 29-28 advantage. The score was tied up at 32-32 with 4:10 to play, but the Panthers scored 10 of the next 14 points to take a 42-36 lead into the fourth.
The Setters tallied five straight points midway through the fourth to turn an eight-point deficit into just three with 4:13 to go. They were then held off the board the rest of the way, as Adelphi locked down on defense and made their free throws down the stretch for the 11-point win.
Calli Balfour tallied a double-double for the Panthers with 12 points and 11 boards. Tara Flynn came away with a game-high 18 points to lead Adelphi.
The Setters now get the rest of the week off before taking a trip up to Syracuse, N.Y. for another NE-10 matchup with Le Moyne College on Tuesday, Feb. 9. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m.
