Pace Women’s Basketball Falls to Division-Leading Adelphi

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University women's basketball dropped a Northeast-10 Conference matchup against Southwest-division leader Adelphi University Saturday afternoon at the Goldstein Fitness Center by a score of 66-53.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
- Senior Kirsten Dodge (Fabius, NY/Fabius-Pompey) put the Setters on the board with a 15-foot jump shot after Adelphi's Calli Balfour made a layup for an even score of 2-2 early in the first quarter.
- Junior Geena Rosalbo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) then knocked down a jumper at the 8:05 mark, but Balfour answered back with a jumper of her own a little less than 20 seconds later.
- Balfour scored in the paint at the 7:07 mark, but senior Christina Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic / Iona College) connected on a jumper to tie it up at 6-6 with 6:52 to go in the quarter.
- The Panthers closed out the first frame on a 12-2 run to take an 18-8 lead into the second frame.
 
2ND QUARTER
- Adelphi opened the second quarter where it left off, going on a 13-0 run, capped off with a layup by Sierra Schrader at 2:38 mark.
- Freshman Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack) scored the Setters' sole basket of the second quarter with 2:23 remaining until halftime.
- Sierra Clark finished in the paint at the 2:15 mark for the last basket of the first half to give the Panthers a 33-13 advantage heading into the locker room.
 
HALFTIME STATS
- Christina Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic / Iona College) had a team-high five points and three rebounds at the break.
- Simone Hobdy picked up a game-leading 11 points in the first half for the Panthers, as well as two boards and two assists.
 
3RD QUARTER
- The Setters entered the second half with a new energy as they forced paint touches and Dodge knocked down two free throws early in the third.
- DelliSanti then drained a triple and connected on two free throws to help the Setters chip away at the Panthers' lead for a score of 33-20 at the 6:51 mark.
- Sophomore Stephanie Svoboda then drained a deep ball, leaving the Setters down just 10 with 6:18 remaining in the quarter.
- To cap off the Setters' 12-0 run, Dodge finished strong in the paint, bringing the Setters within eight with 4:37 left in the period.
- Adelphi scored its first points of the third quarter at the 3:57 mark when Niajah Morgan sank a three to put the Panthers on top by 11.
- Adelphi then got in a groove and closed the third outscoring the Setters, 13-7, to take a 46-32 lead into the fourth.
 
4TH QUARTER
- The Setters outscored the Panthers 21-20 in the fourth, and turned in a late 8-0 run to get back within 12, but the lead was too much to overcome, as time ran out with Adelphi claiming a 13-point victory.
 
SETTER STATS
- Dodge finished with her third double-double in a row, scoring 10 points and collected 14 boards, while also rejecting a game-leading three shots.
- Christina Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic / Iona College) finished with a season-high 13 points and corralled four rebounds.
- DelliSanti scored a career-high 11 points, adding two assists and two steals.
- Oskam dished out a team-high five assists.
 
PANTHERS LEADERS
- Balfour netted a game-high 30 points with six steals, and she matched Oskam with five assists.
- Clark finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling down 12 boards, while adding four steals and two assists.
- Hobdy tallied 13 points, dished out four assists and grabbed three rebounds.

- Adelphi: 8-2 (6-0 NE10)
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
- The Setters travel to the University of Bridgeport for a non-conference game on Tuesday, Dec. 13. The contest is set for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
- Pace then returns home for more non-conference action against Concordia College on Friday, Dec. 16, with a 7 p.m. start at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
