EASTON, Mass. – Trailing 1-0 for much of the game, the sixth-seeded Pace University women's soccer team looked to be on the edge of defeat in the final minutes of Sunday's Northeast-10 Conference Championship Game against No. 4-seed Stonehill College. Senior
Alyssa Zeoli (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay East Fishkill) then redirected a pass from senior
Delany Williams (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) in the 84th minute into the left corner of the net to tie the game. Before regulation could end, Stonehill found a way to score one more goal off the leg of Lauren Kapatoes with 1:39 to play, earning the Skyhawks the 2016 Northeast-10 Conference Title.
NE-10 ALL-CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM
- Zeoli and Williams were both named to the 2016 Northeast-10 All-Championship Team for their efforts throughout the NE-10 Championship Tournament.
- Zeoli scored twice during the week for a total of four points, while Williams dished out a pair of assists, including the helper on the game-winner in Friday's semifinal.
RECORD BREAKER
- Zeoli's late goal was her ninth of the year, and the 28th of her storied career at Pace, putting her in first place all-time on the Pace women's soccer career goals list.
- Her 20 points this season give her 63 for her career, placing her second all-time.
- Zeoli set the single-season goals (18) and points (40) records back in 2014.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the 26th minute, Kapatoes scored the first goal of the game on a header off a feed from Taylor Shannahan, giving the Skyhawks an early 1-0 advantage.
- Zeoli's goal tied the game in the 84th minute, seemingly setting the game up for overtime.
- Stonehill's Emily Scollard sent a cross into the box, where it found Kapatoes' head about six yards out, allowing her to score her second of the game and the game-winning goal in the 89th minute.
