PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University women's volleyball team celebrated Senior Day in grand fashion by grabbing a crucial 3-1 win over Saint Michael's College in Saturday's Northeast-10 Conference matchup at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
SENIOR DAY
- The Setters honored seniors
Miki Carver (Oceanside, CA/Fallbrook) and
Samantha Marquez (Palmetto Bay, FL/Miami Palmetto/Palm Beach State College) before the start of the contest, congratulating them on all of their achievements and thanking them for their contributions to the Pace volleyball program throughout their tenures at the University.
- Head coach
Karrin Moore was also recognized prior to the start of Saturday's match for winning her 100th career match last night against Bloomfield College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
- The Purple Knights were the first to get on the board after a kill and attacking error on the Setters.
- The Setters led by as much as seven points after a series of errors from Saint Michael's.
- A service ace allowed St. Michael's to bring the score within three 21-24.
- The Purple Knights capitalized off that point by taking the set 27-25, after capturing seven of the final eight points.
SET 2
- The Setters went on an eight-point run, seven being served by freshman
Maria Snelling (University Heights, OH/Gilmour Academy), to take a commanding 14-2 lead.
- Pace pushed its lead out to 22-4 before the Purple Knights began battling back.
- Saint Michael's found a bit of energy after an attacking error from the Setters and scored the next six points to make it 22-10.
-The Setters were able to hold on to their lead, finishing the set with a 25-13 win.
SET 3
- A five-point stretch for the Setters broke an early tie and gave them an 8-3 lead.
- The Purple Knights managed to bring the score within two after an attacking error from the Setters sparked a 4-0 run bring the score to 11-9.
- Saint Michael's was able to take the lead at 13-11, and kept increasing its advantage until forcing set point at 24-19.
- The Setters woke up late, rallying for the next six points to earn set point of their own.
- The Purple Knights halted the rally and scored the next two to earn another set point, but Pace turned it around to take the next three and close out the game with a 28-26 win, taking a 2-1 lead in the match.
SET 4
- The final set went point-for-point between the two teams throughout majority of the frame.
- Pace took a small lead, taking an 18-16 advantage going into the final stretch.
- The Purple Knights tied it up at 22-22, but a pair of scores and a final service ace by sophomore
Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) wrapped up the match with a 25-22 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore
Kathleen Benson (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) had a stellar match, hitting .485 with 16 kills, adding five blocks as well.
- Fontanet threw down 11 kills and completed a double-double with 20 digs. She also served up three aces and had three blocks.
- Freshman
Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) passed out a match-best 46 assists, adding 12 digs for another double-double.
- Freshman
Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) picked up a team-high 37 digs.

UP NEXT
- The Setters return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 8, when they host the University of New Haven in a NE-10 match at the Goldstein Fitness Center at 7 p.m.
