RINDGE, N.H. – The Pace University women's volleyball team concluded the regular season with a four-set defeat to Franklin Pierce University on the road on Saturday. The loss placed the Setters in the eighth and final spot for the Northeast-10 Conference Championship Tournament.
RESULTS
Franklin Pierce 3, Pace 1 (17-25, 25-19, 28-26, 25-14)
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
- The Setters took a 3-1 lead early in the set.
- Sophomore
Kathleen Benson (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) had three kills for Pace that helped give the Setters an 8-5 advantage.
- Pace kept a four-or-more point lead for the rest of the set, and led by as many as six late in the game.
- A service error by the Ravens set up Pace's 3-0 run to end the first set with a 25-17 win.
SET 2
- The Ravens came out swinging to start the second set, scoring the first three points before Pace got on the board.
- The Setters got the score to within one at 11-10 after a kill by junior
Sydney Lecker (Littleton, CO/Chatfield).
- An attacking error from the Setters sparked a 5-0 run for the Ravens to give them a 16-11 lead.
- Franklin Pierce kept the Setters down by at least four points for the rest of the set.
- The Ravens finished the set with a 25-19 to even the match.
SET 3
- The third frame went back and forth for the two teams.
- Pace scored the first two points, followed by three from Franklin Pierce.
- A kill by Benson tied the set later on at 8-8.
- The teams went point-for-point throughout the majority of the set, registering 12 tie scores until the end of the set.
- The Ravens hit 24 first after a four-point run, but a kill from Lecker tied up the game to force extra points.
- The game continued to go back-and forth, but the Setters were unable to claim a lead, eventually falling to the Ravens, 28-26.
SET 4
- The Setters had a 4-3 lead to start the final set, but an attacking error sparked a 7-0 run from the Raven to put them ahead, 10-4.
- A ball handling error gave the Setters an opportunity to rally, but the Ravens answered right back to keep momentum.
- The Ravens had a couple of runs throughout the set to continuously increase their lead.
- A ball handling error on Pace allowed the Ravens to run off four more points and give them a 20-11 lead late.
- Franklin Pierce led by as much as eleven in the final set, eventually outscoring Pace, 25-14, to win the match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Freshman
Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) led the floor with 20 digs in the four sets.
- Sophomore
Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) picked up another double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs. She also added two service aces for the Setters.
- Freshman
Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) dished out a team-high 41 assists and collected nine digs.
- Lecker had seven kills and five digs.
- Benson finished with a team-high 14 kills. She also registered a block for Pace.
- Freshman
Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) added three blocks, 10 kills and nine digs for the Setters.

- Eighth-seeded Pace visits top-seeded Le Moyne College on Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the quarterfinal round of the 2016 Northeast-10 Conference Championship Tournament. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
