WORCESTER, Mass. – After surrendering a late lead, senior
Delany Williams (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) got redemption for the Pace University women's soccer team, scoring the double-overtime winner in the 108th minute to give the Setters a 2-1 victory over Assumption College at the Multi-Sport Stadium on Saturday, clinching a berth into the Northeast-10 Conference Championships as the No. 6 seed for the Setters.
PLAYOFF BOUND
- With Saturday's victory, the Setters will enter this week's Northeast-10 Conference Championship Tournament as the sixth seed.
- They will travel to nearby New Haven, Conn. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, to take on No. 3-seed Southern Connecticut State University in the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Setters outshot the Greyhounds, 10-3, in the first half, but both teams went scoreless going into halftime.
- Pace got over the hump quickly, as junior
Tabatha Gonzalez (Pembroke Pines, FL/Charles W. Flanagan) fired in a goal just 52 seconds into the second half off a feed from senior
Ashley Kenny (Chester, NY/Washingtonville) to put the Setters up, 1-0.
- With just 23 seconds remaining, Assumption's Kallie Villemaire ended the shutout, scoring off a loose ball in front of the net to tie the game and force overtime.
- The Greyhounds took three shots in the extra period, and the Setters were unable to get any off, but they played great defense to hold off their hosts to force a second overtime period.
- In the 108th minute of the game, Williams came up huge and blasted in the game-winning goal from the right side into the left corner of the goal for the walkoff victory.
PACE LEADERS
- Gonzalez netted her second goal of the season early in the second half, while Williams' game-winner was her fifth score of the year, matching her total from the 2015 season.
- Kenny assisted Gonzalez on the first goal of the game for her third helper of the year.
- Junior goalkeeper
Hayley Pascoal (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township) played the first 45 minutes in net and rejected two shots.
- Junior goalkeeper
Aisha Chauhan (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) took over in the second half, and finished with five saves in 62:36 between the pipes, earning the victory to improve to 6-4-2 on the year.
ASSUMPTION
- Villemaire scored the only goal for the Greyhounds late in the second half in an attempt to keep her team alive.
- Jessica Fitzgerald and Nikki Callini each put two shots on goal.
- Goalkeepers Emily Kuzma and Alexis Nason finished with five combined stops, but Nason took the loss after taking over in the second half and allowing both goals.

- Pace: 10-6-2, (7-5-2 NE-10)
- Assumption: 8-9-1, (6-7-1 NE-10)
- The Setters' .611 winning percentage at the end of the regular season is the best in program history in the regular season.
WHATS NEXT?
- The Setters will take on No. 3-seeded Southern Connecticut State in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships Quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 1.
- Game time for Tuesday's first-round matchup has yet to be announced.
