WALTHAM, Mass. – The Pace University football team took on a tough defensive team in Bentley University on Saturday, and fell on a rainy afternoon at the Bentley University Football Stadium by a score of 28-0 in Northeast-10 Conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bentley's defense and special teams did most of the work for the Falcons on Saturday.
- The game was scoreless until the final two minutes of the first half, when Bentley's Peter Thorbahn returned an interception 67 yards for the score to take a 7-0 lead.
- A blocked punt by Bentley with 30 seconds left in the second quarter set up the Falcon offense with a goal-to-go situation, and three plays later, CJ Scarpa hit Sean Myers in the corner of the end zone to make it 14-0 heading into the break.
- Bentley's Kyle Wisnieski returned an interception down to Pace's one-yard line in the fourth quarter, where George Craan ran it in a play later to make it a 21-0 game.
- Bentley's defense forced the Setters to turn it over on downs on Pace's 30, and five plays later, Matt Montalto punched it in for a six-yard score.
STRONG DEFENSIVE EFFORT
- Despite the score, Pace's defense played a solid game against the Falcons on Saturday.
- Pace held the Falcons to 241 yard of total offense, including just 63 yards in the air.
- Bentley tried 49 rushing attempts in the game, averaging just 3.6 yards per carry.
- Pace forced Bentley to punt 10 times in the game, allowing Bentley to convert on just 4-of-19 third downs (21 percent).
- Redshirt junior
Matthew Corrie (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) made 15 tackles in the game, including 3.5 for a loss of yards.
- Sophomore
Kadeem Langhorne (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) was close behind with 14 tackles, and also recovered a fumble.
- Sophomore
Matthew Ferrara (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) picked up his first interception of the season, returning it eight yards.
- Sophomore
Robert Planter (Toms River, NJ/Manchester Township) tallied a sack and 2.5 tackles for loss.
BENTLEY
- Quarterback CJ Scarpa was held to just 63 yards passing, going 14-of-23 with a touchdown and an interception.
- George Craan carried the ball 23 times for 88 yards and scored a touchdown.
- Matt Montalto rushed for 41 yards on nine totes and also found pay dirt.
- Bentley punter Tyler Ford averaged 46.2 yards per punt on 10 kicks, including a long of 68 yards and two that landed inside the 20.
- Bryan Hardy led the Falcons with nine tackles, and partnered up with Matthew Yanes for a sack.
WHAT'S NEXT?
- The Setters return to Pace Stadium for Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, Oct. 8. Pace will take on Southern Connecticut State University in a 1 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference matchup. Saturday will feature a cowbell giveaway for the first 1,000 fans in attendance.
