Wright Sets Homerun Record in Sweep Against Chestnut Hill

BRIARCLIFF, NY- Hana Wright blasted her school record 23rd as the Setters swept a doubleheader against the Chestnut Hill Griffins in their non-conference regular season finale. Pace took the opener 9-0 in six innings and took home the win in the nightcap 8-1. The Setters improve to 24-14, while the Griffins fall to 9-29.
 
In the opener, the Setters powered their way to victory as they blasted four homeruns. Amanda Limon hit a solo shot in the third, while Shelby Yung connected on one in the fourth to put Pace up 3-0.
 
In the fifth, Jeane Drury singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Limon drove in Drury with a single to extend the Setter lead to 4-0. Wright stepped to the plate and blasted her record-breaking homerun to score Limon as she passed Angela Locsin on Pace's all-time homerun list. The Setters put the game away in the sixth as Yung singled and Surina Sandhu drew a walk. Drury blasted a three-run homerun to end the opener.
 
Caitlin McCann improved to 10-4 on the season as she tossed a complete game shutout, allowing two hits and striking out four. Drury went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Limon and Yung both had two hits in the opener.
 
In the nightcap, the Griffins took an early lead with a run in the opening inning. The Setters tied it with a run in their half of the first as Yung doubled and scored on a single by Nikole Larm. In the second, Ashley Lew was hit by a pitch, while Natalie Gellos hit a double. Yung drove in both runners with a double.
 
The Setters added four runs in the sixth as Kelly Whritenour drove in two runs with a bloop single to right field, while Joyce Labonte connected on a two-run homerun in the inning, the first of her collegiate career.
 
On the mound, Kaitlynn Nelson tossed 6 2/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits, while striking out eight to improve to 8-6 on the season. McCann retired the final batter in relief.
 
The Setters are the #2 seed in the Northeast-10 Southwest Division and have received a bye to the quarterfinals. Pace will take on the winner Northeast's #3 Assumption and #4 Saint Anselm. The game will be played on Thursday on the campus of #1 seed Southern New Hampshire, time TBA.
