POMONA, N.Y. – The Setters fell to St. Thomas Aquinas in non-conference action on Thursday by a score of 10-2. Following the loss, Pace falls to 15-12 while St. Thomas Aquinas advances to 20-9-1.
The Setters wasted no time as they began the scoring in the top of the first inning. After two quick outs, senior
Tom Midolo drew a walk to give Pace a baserunner. Sophomore
John Kukura came up next and belted a single to center field to give the Setters runners at first and second.
Nick LoBello took to the plate next and drove everybody in with a two-run double down the right field line.
Down the stretch the Setters were unable to generate offense as the St. Thomas Aquinas pitching held the Pace bats to just three hits in the final eight innings. The Spartan bats were on fire as they recorded 15 hits to eventually win the game 10-2.
LoBello led the way at the plate, going 1-4 with two RBIs. Midolo and Kukura each went 1-3 with a run scored while
Domenick Luongo went 1-2 with a double.
Ryan Aquino (1-1) got the start and took the loss after tossing four innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits with one strikeout.
Anthony Rocco allowed three earned runs on three hits in one third innings of relief while
Jake Amoroso tossed 2.2 inning, allowing three earned runs on six hits with three Ks.
Michael Forgione pitched the final inning and allowed no runs on just one hit with a pair of strikeouts.
The Setters return to the diamond on Saturday when they travel to Lyndhurst, N.J. to host American International in a doubleheader. First pitch will be thrown at 2:00 p.m. on the campus of Felician College.
