PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Senior
Margo Hackett became just the 26
th player ever to reach 1000 points in a Pace uniform as the Setters defeated Southern Connecticut by a score of 61-57.
After the Owls started the game on a 6-0 run, freshman
Gabriella Rubin halted the early rally with a basket from behind the arc. One minute later, it was G. Rubin again, this time sinking a layup with the foul and converting the free throw for the and-one. On the very next Setter possession, Hackett drained a three to force action to 9-8 and give Pace their first lead of the game. Then later, trailing by three with nine minutes remaining in the half, Hackett added five more points when she sank a pair of buckets, one from deep, on back-to-back possessions.
Pace reclaimed the lead when senior
Jaclyn Oskam rattled home a three with the foul and hit the free throw for the rare four-point play. The key shot sparked a 12-3 rally for the Setters that was capped off by another Hackett longball. After freshman
Eva Hart added a triple in the final seconds of the half, the Setters took a five-point advantage into the locker room.
Following the first half, Hackett let Pace with 11 points and stood just two points away from the university milestone. The Setters shot 50% (7-14) from distance in the first half while holding the Owls to just 14.3% (1-7).

Kirsten Dodge answered with a layup that was followed by a
Christina Rubin bucket to pull the Setters back up by five.
Then, with 9:39 left on the clock, Hackett banked in a layup with the foul to score her 13
th point of the game and eclipse the 1000 point mark for her career. After she converted the free throw, Pace held a six point lead over Southern Connecticut. The Owls cut it to a one possession game with 4:49 to go, but C. Rubin connected from deep to spark a 7-0 run that she ended with another three-pointer. Pace added a trio of free throws down the stretch to defeat the Owls, 61-57. The Setters held the lead for the duration of the second half.
