PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore guard
Gabriella Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) totaled a team-best 11 points, but the Setters fell short and dropped a non-conference home contest against Bridgeport, 60-44. Following the loss, Pace falls to 5-3 while the Knights advance to 2-4.
The Setters started the game with three straight long balls, cutting an early Knight advantage to 15-9.
Jaclyn Oskam (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central / Quinnipiac University),
Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane), and Rubin all connected from downtown to account for the nine Setter points. Pace added two more quick baskets just 46 seconds apart as
Yuni Sher (Poughkeepsie, NY/Long Island Lutheran) and
Geena Rosalbo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) each banked in layups.
The Setter defense buckled down in the second quarter, allowing just a pair of field goals. Pace added six points in the frame, all from
Kirsten Dodge (Fabius, NY/Fabius-Pompey), and entered the locker room trailing 27-21.
Rubin put in the first two points of the second half for Pace, converting on a pair of free throws to cut the Knight lead to eight. Trailing by double digits midway through the third, Sher tried to pull the Setters back, connecting on back-to-back layups. Rubin added a jumper late in the half, but Pace trailed by 17 entering the fourth.
Rubin added two more baskets in the fourth quarter, but Pace was unable to overcome the double digit deficit and fell to Bridgeport, 60-44.
Rubin added five rebounds, four assists, and a pair of steals to her team-high 11 points. Dodge chipped in eight points while Sher totaled six points and six rebounds.
The Setters return to the court on Saturday, December 12
th when they travel to New Haven, Conn. to take on NE-10 rival Southern Connecticut. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
