Peterson Records First Double-Double in Pace Men’s Basketball’s Loss to Molloy

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Freshman guard Ryan Peterson (Wethersfield, CT/St. Thomas More) scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season in a 74-63 loss to Molloy College at the Goldstein Fitness Center on Sunday. The loss drops Pace to 5-6 on the year, while Molloy improves to 3-7 overall.

Peterson scored the first points of the game for the Setters, knocking down a three-pointer at the 18:56 mark to put Pace on the board. He scored seven of his points within the first half. Peterson has scored double-digits in every game this season, and is averaging 14.8 points per game.

Molloy broke things open early on, taking a 20-12 lead after a three by Brandon Williams. The Setters recovered to score the next six points to get back within a pair. Jaylen Morris followed with a layup for the Lions to go up by four, but back-to-back scores for Peterson and sophomore guard Bryan Rivers (West Windsor, NJ/Peddie School) tied the game at 22 apiece.

Molloy fired back with a 14-0 run to go up, 36-22, with 6:04 left in the half. The Lions held a big lead going into the break, taking a 46-30 edge after the first half.

The Setters came out strong to start the second half, tallying 15 of the first 22 points to cut the deficit to just eight. Molloy then added six straight points to go back up by 14. The Lions' lead grew to as many as 18 points with just over five minutes to play, but Pace scored 10 of the final 13 points to get back within 11, but time ran out on the Setters' rally.

Rivers led Pace in scoring on the afternoon, matching his season-high with 17 points. Senior guard Shelton Mickell (Queens, NY/Cardozo / Central Connecticut State) added 14 points for the Setters, and matched Rivers for a team-best four assists.

The Lions matched the Setters with four players scoring in double-digits on Sunday. Curtis Jenkins led the way with a game-high 18 points, while Jaylen Morris turned in a double-double with 13 points and 14 boards.

The Setters are back in action on Thursday, Dec. 31, when they travel to Post University for a 2 p.m. non-conference matchup on New Year's Eve.
