PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University Women's Basketball squad kicked off the 2015 portion of their schedule with a 61-43 win over Dominican on Friday. Following the win, the Setters advance to 6-6, 2-4 NE-10 while Dominican falls to 5-9, 3-2 CACC.
Pace took their first lead of the contest at the 17:35 mark when freshman
Geena Rosalbo drilled a shot from distance to claim a 4-3 lead. The Chargers again pulled ahead, this time by three points when freshman
Gabriella Rubin nailed a triple to tie things up at nine apiece. Once again trailing by three with 9:18 remaining in the half, senior
Margo Hackett rattled home a three for her first points of the contest to knot things even at 13. With 8:20 remaining in the half, and the score tied at 15-all, junior
Yuni Sher connected on a layup to spark seven consecutive Pace points, and give the Setters a five-point advantage. Pace trailed by two points with 28 seconds to go in the half when
Jaclyn Oskam hit a three-pointer to pull the Setters up by one. After Dominican added a free throw, both teams entered the locker room tied at 28-28.
Pace began the second half hot as Sher converted a layup on the Setter's opening possession. After the two teams played even for nearly 25 minutes, Hackett hit a three that helped the Setters take control of the game and start a 16-2 rally. During the crucial run, newcomer
Christina Rubin led Pace with six points behind a pair of three pointers. Dominican began to storm back until Sher hit on a pair of baskets down the stretch to build the lead back to 15. The Setters closed out the contest on a 6-0 run to win the game 61-43.
Sher led Pace with a game-best 16 points while adding seven rebounds and a pair of blocks. Hackett chipped in 13 points behind 3-7 shooting from behind the arc and led the Setters with eight rebounds. Oskam added six points and four rebounds while G. Rubin registered seven points, three rebounds, and three steals.
Pace puts their winning streak on the line this Sunday when they travel to Sparkill, N.Y. for a 1 p.m. matchup against St. Thomas Aquinas College.
