Men’s Basketball Falls to Southern New Hampshire

PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Kyle Pearson netted 15 points as the Setters fell to the Southern New Hampshire Penmen 65-50 in Northeast-10 Conference action.
 
The Setters fall to 5-11 overall and 1-8 in the NE-10, while the Penmen improve to 9-5 and 8-3 in conference play.
 
The teams traded leads over the first eight minutes of the game with the Setters pulling ahead by three at 14-11 following a pair of Shelton Mickell free throws at the 11:24 mark. The Penmen netted 11 of the next 12 points in the game to take a seven point lead at the 5:23 mark. Pace rallied late closing to within two points at three different times with the final one coming at the 1:12 mark after a Mickell lay-up. The Penmen drained a late triple to lead 29-24 at the break.
 
The Penmen extended their halftime advantage into a double-digit lead midway through the second half. The Setters chipped away with an 11-3 run to close the gap down to eight points with 6:33 left in the game. Evan Gordinier and Evan Orzolek both hit triples in the run, while Khalil Brown converted a three-point play to lead Pace. Pearson capped the rally with a triple to slice the score down to 54-46 but the Penmen scored the next 11 points to extend their lead into the final stretch.
 
For Pace, Pearson's 15 points led the way, while Mickell added 12 points, six assists and five rebounds. Brown finished with nine points and two boards, while Jaylen Mann led the Setters in rebounds with eight.
 
The Setters are back home on Thursday, January 15 as they host Philadelphia University in a non-conference tilt at 7:30 pm at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
