MANCHESTER, NH- The Pace University football team fell to the Saint Anselm Hawks 52-26 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters fall to 0-4 and 0-3 in the NE-10, while the Hawks improve to 4-0 and 3-0 in conference play.
The Hawks got on the board with three early touchdowns, but the Setters answered late in the opening quarter. Freshman quarterback
Steven Demeo led Pace on an 8-play, 57-yard drive with a key play coming on fourth-and-nine as
Kyle Johnson rushed for 18 yards on a fake punt. Three plays later, Demeo connected with freshman
Kyle Vadis for a 21-yard touchdown strike. Pace added a 33-yard field goal by
Jake Armstrong with under a minute to play in the half, slicing the lead38-10 at the break.
In the second half, the Setter defense picked up a safety and the offense posted a pair of touchdowns. Sophomore
Delaney Wallacefound paydirt from two yards out at the 4:58 mark of the third quarter after Demeo hit Johnson for a 67-yard connection on the previous play. Pace struck again late in the fourth quarter as Demeohooked up with Johnsonon an 18-yard touchdown passfor the final score of the game.
For the Setters, Demeo completed 16-of-34 passes for 309 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Johnson was the top receiver with 92 yards on three catches. Vadishauled infourpasses for 57 yards on the day.
Jamir Gee led the Setter defense with 11 tackles, while
Tyler Owens netted nine on the afternoon.
The Setters return home next Saturday, October 4 as they take on the LIU Post Pioneers in an NE-10 match-up at Ann M. Dorner Middle School at 12 pm. The game will feature Take-A-Kid to the Game and White Setters Squad Game Day T-Shirts will be sold to Pace students at the bus kiosks for $10 with $3 of every t-shirt sold going to the P4K Dance Marathon on campus. All Fans are invited to participate by wearing white t-shirts to the game on October 4.
