Softball Hits 6 Homeruns in Twin Bill Split With Assumption

WORCESTER, MA- Shelby Yung (Upland, CA/Upland) (Upland, CA/Upland) went 5-for-7 with two of Pace's six homeruns as the Setters split a doubleheader against the Assumption Greyhounds. Pace took the opener 5-1, while the Greyhounds won the nightcap 4-3 in nine innings.

The Setters are now 7-16 overall and 6-7 in the Northeast-10, while the Greyhounds move to 9-11 and 3-5 in conference play.

In the opener, Yung led off the game with a solo homerun, while Lana Buchbinder (San Francisco, CA/George Washington) (San Francisco, CA/George Washington) hit a solo homerun to lead off the third inning. The Setters added a run later in the inning as Yung reached on an infield single and came around to score on a Greyhound error.

In the fifth, Yung led off with a single and scored two batters on a homerun by Natalie Gellos (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy). On the hill, Caitlin McCann (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) scattered eight hits and allowed a run in the fifth inning. She struck out three in a complete game effort to pick up her third win of the season.

In the nightcap, the Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead with a run in the fourth. Kimberly Duffy (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) tied the game at 1-1 with a solo homerun in the fifth but Assumption rallied with two runs in their half of the inning.

Pace again used the long ball to rally in the final two innings as Yung hit a solo shot in the sixth and Nikole Larm (Brewster, NY/Brewster) (Brewster, NY/Brewster) forced extra inning with a solo homerun in the seventh. The game went to nine innings as Assumption hit a walk-off solo homerun to take game two 4-3.

For the Setters, Kaitlynn Nelson (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) went five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, while Kira Knight (Benicia, CA/Benicia) pitched a scoreless inning, allowing one hit. McCann (3-8) struck out two in 2 1/3 innings of work, allowing deciding hit in the ninth.

The Setters travel to New Haven for a single game on Tuesday, April 8 at 4 pm.
